How to really describe a human face

I occasionally like to write fiction, though I haven't done as much of it lately as I did when I was in college.  One problem I've always had is how to really describe how a person looks, especially their face.  Consider, for example, Marilyn Monroe and Pam Anderson.  Both are attractive women with blonde hair.  Otherwise, how would one differentiate between them WITHOUT using a picture?
